The power of the resurrection

As we approach Good Friday and the cross we see the love of God fully demonstrated for all mankind.

‘You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’ (Romans 5:6-8 NIV)

God’s love fully on display!

However, what we might miss in the constant battle between good and evil is the ultimate power of God demonstrated through the resurrection. The Greek word for power, dunamas, is the derivative of our word for dynamite. God’s power over death on resurrection morning was explosive. Unhindered by Satan and all his demons who tried to keep Christ in the tomb, Christ arose!

God powerfully spoke creation into existence. Christ demonstrated his power through miraculous healing, walking on water and calming the storm. God revealed his infinite power over death Easter morning. Yes, God is love, but God is also powerfully acting daily on our behalf. He desires to bless.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. (Ephesians 1:18-21 NIV)

God, through the resurrection, established victory over death for all who choose him. God, through the resurrection, provided an eternal victorious home in heaven. Now that is real power!
